Hua Hin is an interesting attraction with many Thai and international tourists. Nowadays, it is full with many health tourism attractions as another health tourism area beside Bangkok.
Hua Hin offers a laid back and friendly seaside atmosphere with good infrastructure, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and international schools. Being the Royal beach resort, cabarets, discos, and other nightspots are more regulated than normal and rather limited, which some may find refreshing. Hua Hin has a stunning beach, lovely waterfalls, lush limestone mountains and plenty of leisure activities. What better place to rejuvenate than at an internationally renowned spa in a great location? Whether undergoing spa treatment, dentistry or medical services in Hua Hin, it is the perfect place for those who love a more sedate holiday style.

Health Tourism

According to The World Health Organization, health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely absence of disease. For health tourism, there are several definitions. According to Dr Steve Hajioff, Director, PHAST, University of Mauritius.

Planned use of medical services away from home: Health Tourism (Medical Tourism) is the travel to other nations or territories for the purpose of procurement of medical services and other health interventions.
Or by Dr. Heli Tooman, University of Tartu Pärnu College, it is
Travelling for the purposes of improvement and/or maintenance of health.
By Longman dictionary online,
Health tourism [uncountable] 1. Travelling to a foreign country in order to receive cheap or free medical treatment - used to show disapproval 2. Having a holiday that involves taking part in sports activities or doing things such as having beauty treatments

Health tourists are person who travelling for the above purpose.

In Thailand, health tourism is divided by purposed in two kinds , .
1. Health healing: it is the travel whose purpose is to restore health, curing diseases, including cosmetic surgery, dental services, etc. This case we call medical tourism.
2. Health promotion: it is the travel whose purpose is to increase health strength in the tourist attraction area. The activity example is spa, aroma therapy, Thai herb sauna/stream, body massage etc. The supplementary service may be body detoxi meditation, yoga, nutrition consulting etc. This case is a called altogether as wellness tourism. Note that in some text, it divides into spa and wellness tourism.
3. However, in this category, the spa business is the major business in the wellness tourism in Thailand which is included by the term “health business” according to the Act of legislation of Public Health Ministry (B.E. 2509).

According to the Act of legislation (B.E. 2509) of Public Health Ministry, the business means the place for health or beauty maintenance. The health business is categorized as
1. Spa business for health. It is the business for massaging and uses water for treatment. It can also have facility such as nutrition suggestion, herb sauna and stream, meditation, yoga and alternative medicine,
2. Massage business for health. The business focuses on massaging for health, for relaxing according to massage science and does not provide the bathing area,
3. Massage business for beauty. The business is such as hair salon or beauty salon, It contains the massage type according to the massage science which can increase beauty and does not provide bathing area.

Thus, in Hua-Hin district, the spa business is four kinds.
1. Hotel and resort spa. It is the spa business in the hotel. The main business is the hotel and resort while spa business is a facility in the hotel.
2. Destination spa. It is the spa business which provides packages for tourists who intends to take a spa course in there. The tourist must attend a course which may require 2 or more night stays at the resort. The famous spa in Thailand of this kind is Chivasom (http://www.chivasom.com) which is located in Hua-Hin district.
3. Day spa. It is a kind of spa which provides various services . The treatment or service can be finished in one day. It may not be a hotel or resort. On the contrary, the hotel or resort can be a day spa.
4. Medical spa. It is the facility between medical clinic and day spa. It must be operated under a qualified medical team . It is like a clinic or hospital. It has doctors in many related fields including cosmetic surgery, nutrition consultant, etc. In Hua-Hin district, we consider hospitals and clinics.

Aquatic exercise instructors, personal trainers, and aquatic therapy and rehabilitation practitioners will find the AiChi workshop beneficial for them and their clients. It is an efficient exercise program that increases oxygen and caloric consumption simply with correct form and positioning in the water. It is a perfect relaxation technique for highly stressed, over-challenged clients, and it is ideal for creating improved range of motion and mobility. AiChi, created by combining Tai-Chi concepts with Shiatsu and Watsu techniques, is performed standing in shoulder depth water using a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad movements of the arms, legs, and torso. Lecture and Pool.
The favorite yoga, Pilates, and tai chi exercises can be done in the water or join a class to learn these popular mind/body movements. Some exercises offer multiple benefits. For example, the yoga "warrior" position performed in waist-high water provides relaxation, relieves stiffness in the waist and rib areas, stretches the entire body, and strengthens arms and legs. Water's support and the fluid movements of these exercises make them ideal during pregnancy and rehabilitation.

Carrier oil, also known as base oil or vegetable oil, is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes before they are applied to the skin in massage and aromatherapy. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils do not contain a concentrated aroma, unlike essential oils, though some, such as olive, have a mild distinctive smell. Neither do they evaporate like essential oils, which are more volatile. The carrier oils used should be as natural and unadulterated as possible. Many people feel organic oils are of higher quality. Cold-pressing and maceration are the two main methods of producing carrier oils.

A caldarium (also called a calidarium, cella caldaria or cella coctilium) was a room with a hot plunge bath, used in a Roman bath complex. This was a very hot and steamy room heated by a hypocaust, an underfloor heating system. This was the hottest room in the regular sequence of bathing rooms; after the caldarium, bathers would progress back through the tepidarium to the frigidarium. In the caldarium, there would be a bath (alveus, piscina calida or solium) of hot water sunk into the floor and there was sometimes even a laconicum—a hot, dry area for inducing sweating.

Massage using hot stone.
Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. A stone massage can use cold or water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to the body. Stones coated in oil can also be used by the therapist delivering various massaging strokes. The hot stones used are commonly Basalt stones (or lava rocks) which over time have become extremely polished and smooth. As the stones are placed along the recipient's back, they help to retain heat which then deeply penetrates into the muscles, releasing tension.

And while most other Thai holiday destinations cater mainly to foreign tourists, Hua Hin is a holiday resort for foreigners and Thais. Besides it's great 5 mile long beach Hua Hin provides the highest density of world class golf courses anywhere in Thailand while it's yet virtually undiscovered as an international Golf destination. Green-fees and other costs are currently among the lowest in the world while course maintenance and services are superb. Hua Hin (Thai: หัวหิน, IPA: [hǔə hǐn]) is a beach resort town in Thailand, in the northern part of the Malay Peninsula, some 200 km south of Bangkok. It has a population of 84,883 in an area of 911 km², and is one of eight districts (amphoe) of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Hua Hin is closely associated with the Thai royalty. Merely 25 kilometres apart, Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province enjoys a wealth of satellite attractions; prominent among them are national parks and historical cities.

The healing practice of Thai herbal compress therapy dates back nearly 5,000 years, to an era when the knowledge of plants, including their effects through ingestion or application on the body, were painstakingly researched and then passed down from one generation to the next. The Thai Herbal Ball compress technique offers several potential health benefits: It induces deep relaxation, relieves stress and fatigue, boosts both emotional and physical well-being, assists alignment and postural integrity of the body, improves circulation of blood and lymph and stimulates the internal organs.

A Turkish bath (Turkish: hamam) is the Turkish variant of the Roman bath, steambath, sauna, or Russian banya, distinguished by a focus on water, as distinct from ambient steam. In Western Europe, the "Turkish bath" as a method of cleansing and relaxation became popular during the Victorian era. The process involved in taking a Turkish bath is similar to that of a sauna, but is more closely related to ancient Greek and ancient Roman bathing practices. The Turkish bath starts with a relaxation in a room (known as the warm room) that is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air, allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room (known as the hot room) before they wash in cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation.

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber) and vibration/shaking.[38] Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. The development of Swedish massage is often inaccurately credited to Per Henrik Ling, though the Dutch practitioner Johann Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes. The term "Swedish" massage is actually only recognized in English and Dutch speaking countries, and in Hungary. Elsewhere (including Sweden) the style is referred to as "classic massage". Massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil.

Legend has it that Queen Cleopatra used medicine derived from Dead Sea compounds to cure her ills. According to the historian Josephus Flavius (37–c.100 C.E.), King Herod found relief for his aching body in the area’s hot springs. So too did conquering Roman soldiers in many parts of the Roman Empire, who used the highly concentrated magnesium and calcium from Dead Sea waters as a balm to soothe their aches and pains.

Aromatherapy is an optional medicine that uses volatile plant materials, called essential oils, and some aromatic compounds . It has a goal for relaxing chaning minds and moods, or cognitive function or health. "Some essential oils such as tea tree have demonstrated anti-microbial effects, but there is still a lack of clinical evidence demonstrating efficacy against bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. Evidence for the efficacy of aromatherapy in treating medical conditions remains poor, with a particular lack of studies employing rigorous methodology, but some evidence exists that essential oils may have therapeutic potential"

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds which come from plants. An oil is essential since it has an essence of the plant.

Reflexology, or zone therapy, is an alternative medicine or pseudoscience involving the physical act of applying pressure to the feet, hands, or ears with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on what reflexologists claim to be a system of zones and reflex areas that they say reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work affects a physical change to the body. Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body.

The same as Vinchy shower.
This invigorating shower tones circulation by contracting then dilating capillaries. Water from sixteen needle-spray shower heads and two high-pressure hoses (operated by an attendant), ranging in temperature from 45 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, is turned quickly from hot to cold to hot for several seconds at a time. This massage aids circulation and helps relieve the pain of arthritis and rheumatism. Also known as Douche au Jet or Vichy shower.

The term "aerobics" simply means using oxygen to do these exercises. So a lot of water aerobics classes will not put the emphasis on strength The hydrostatic pressure of water reduces joint swelling and inflammation, which makes exercising easier and less painful. Water provides resistance, which helps increase strength and improve balance. The resistance factor also burns more calories. An exercise done in water can burn twice as many calories as the same exercise done on land. Immersion in water promotes relaxation, reduces muscle fatigue and lessens pain perception.

Water aerobics (waterobics, aquatic fitness, aquafitness, aquafit) is the performance of aerobic exercise in fairly shallow water such as in a swimming pool. Done mostly vertically and without swimming typically in waist deep or deeper water, it is a type of resistance training. Water aerobics is a form of aerobic exercise that requires water-immersed participants. Most water aerobics is in a group fitness class setting with a trained professional teaching for about an hour. The classes focus on aerobic endurance, resistance training, and creating an enjoyable atmosphere with music. Different forms of water aerobics include: aqua Zumba, water yoga, aqua aerobics, and aqua jog.

The lymph system depends on intrinsic contractions of the smooth muscle cells in the walls of lymph vessels (peristalsis) and the movement of skeletal muscles to propel lymph through the vessels to lymph nodes and then beyond the lymph nodes to the lymph ducts which return lymph to the cardiovascular system. Manual lymph drainage uses a specific amount of pressure (less than 9 ounces per square inch) and rhythmic circular movements to stimulate lymph flow.

It most commonly includes kneading and manipulation of muscles, joint mobilization and joint manipulation.

Chinese therapy.
Tui na or tuina /ˌtwiː ˈnɑː/(Chinese: 推拿; pinyin: tuī ná), is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy often used in conjunction with acupuncture, moxibustion, fire cupping, Chinese herbalism, t'ai chi, and qigong. Tui na is a hands-on body treatment that uses Chinese taoist and martial arts principles in an effort to bring the eight principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into balance. The practitioner may brush, knead, roll/press, and rub the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, to attempt to open the body's defensive (wei) chi and get the energy moving in the meridians and the muscles. The practitioner can then use range of motion, traction, and massage, with the stimulation of acupressure points. These techniques are claimed to aid in the treatment of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as many non-musculoskeletal conditions.
